I am a maker. A potter, painter, photographer, quilter, graphic designer, knitter, collector, Odyssey Art at Sea instructor, student of yoga, explorer, dreamer, wife, mother, sister, friend and animal lover. I am always engaged in the creative process in one way or another. Drawing, painting, sewing, working with clay, travelling, exploring. I always have a camera in hand. Inspiration is everywhere and I never take for granted the potential of a place or object to steer my thoughts in a new direction. As a vintage buff, that creative spark is often ignited by the patterns, patinas and textures found in well worn objects. I love the story a vintage object tells and I believe for those who care to listen, that story unfolds in the hand of the collector who rescues it from obsolescence. It's a bit like time travel if you let your imagination take flight. I find myself easily lost in found objects both for the nostalgia they trigger and for the infinite source of inspiration they provide. It took me some time to abandon my art director days to stay home and make art. After 20+ years, I suspended my business in 2001 to create the Flag of Remembrance; a permanent memorial to the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. I transferred thousands of photographs to fabric, in duotones of red, blue, and black and stitched them together to create a 20' x 28' American flag of faces. The Flag is part of the permanent collection of the World Trade Center Memorial Museum in NYC. I spent three years on the project and after it was completed, I decided to abandon graphic design and pursue other creative interests. Bluedog Collections is the result of that gear shifting. I think of myself as a one woman band with my Epson printer, Bernina sewing machine and Cone Art kiln as my trusted staff. Like yoga, I perceive the creative process as a practice, one that I feel blessed to be able to practice every day.
